CANADIAN INFLATION AND THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY – Clients and general contractors are seeing a surge in development opportunities from low interest rates, strong infrastructure spending and pent-up demand in construction activity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Supply chain challenges and material shortages, coupled with this surge in demand has created a perfect scenario for price escalation – at least for the foreseeable future. “The cost of steel, rebar, glass, mechanical and electrical components will increase by nearly 10% in 2022. Prices for asphalt, concrete and brick will rise less dramatically but still above trend.”

And unlike the past, inflation is now much tougher to predict. PCL’s COO, Buildings, Chris Gower outlines a better way to manage today’s inflation in the latest PCL Market Insight. It includes fresh thinking from contractors, owners and procurement agencies. Understanding and managing volatility is key to profitability. Read the full article here

WINNIPEG’S CLOSEST QUARRY BUSY SERVICING CENTREPORT PROJECTSIt has been a remarkable year for The Munro Group. We have been heavily involved in the development of CentrePort based on one of our key connections, Lilyfield Quarry. Lilyfield Quarry is Winnipeg’s newest quarry and is close to all of CentrePort’s projects, which allows for savings on hauling costs. The facility is located one mile north of the perimeter and has had a very busy year with the announcement of the aggregate supply contract for Aecon. Based on the upsurge in business, we plan on installing a second scale at Lilyfield to further improve the process and efficiency of drivers leaving the quarry. Hugh Munro Construction has played a vital role as the contractor for CentrePort’s perimeter highway development and other construction projects for all CentrePort partners’ developments, including the rail park.

The Munro Group also wants to highlight the growth of our RockGlass and Clearsecure product which are solutions for heavy equipment, residential or commercial applications. Here at The Munro Group, our strength is our people and the strong relationship we have with Brandt. Brandt is our local John Deere dealer, who has been a key part of the support system of The Munro Group and the development of Lilyfield Quarry.
