Trade Insights from Laredo and Alliance Texas – November 2024

CentrePort’s President & CEO, Carly Edmundson and Executive Director, Strategic Initiatives and Marketing, Aimee Goyer, had the incredible privilege of attending NASCOs behind-the-scenes tour of Port Laredo — North America’s largest port of entry and a major player in global trade. In 2023, Port Laredo facilitated over $320 billion in total trade.

This rare opportunity allowed them to see firsthand the incredible volume and speed of trade happening in Laredo, from the multiple bridges facilitating crossings across the U.S./Mexico border to in-depth discussions about the port’s impact on trade. They gained valuable insights from the experts driving Laredo’s growth.

Their journey continued to AllianceTexas, a vast mixed-use development that serves as a major logistics and industrial hub, where they discovered remarkable similarities between our two inland ports:

  • Both hubs seamlessly integrate rail, road, and air options, boosting efficiency for businesses.
  • CentrePort and Alliance are crucial for regional growth, attracting businesses and creating jobs.
  • Both facilities are designed not just as hubs for logistics but as thriving communities, incorporating industrial, residential, commercial, and recreational spaces.
  • Both inland ports exceed 20,000 acres, providing ample space for logistics, warehousing, and community development.
  • Positioned on the midcontinent corridor and near major transportation routes, they offer easy access to key markets, driving success for businesses!

These experiences highlight the vital role that innovative trade hubs play in strengthening our economies and fostering collaboration across North America. It also helps inform CentrePort’s development strategies to ensure we remain competitive and effective in this evolving landscape.
