THE NORTH PERIMETER FUNCTIONAL DESIGN STUDY

Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 101 is part of the ring road originally constructed in the 1950s and 1960s as a bypass route around the City of Winnipeg, and, together with PTH 100, is known as the Perimeter Highway – North (PTH 101) and South (PTH 100). The purpose of the North Perimeter Functional Design Study is to develop a plan that will accommodate the future development of the North Perimeter Highway into a fully grade-separated freeway that can ultimately accommodate six lanes. WSP is currently working for the Manitoba government on the North Perimeter Design Study.

Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure has been meeting with stakeholders and the local community since February 2023 to introduce the project and collect initial feedback. The study team has more recently developed road alignment and interchange options, which are available to view on the EngageMB website: https://engagemb.ca/pth101. The road alignment and interchange options are divided into five segments. Those interested in the CentrePort area can take a look at Segment 1 (Portage Avenue to CentrePort Canada Way), Segment 2 (CentrePort Canada Way to Rosser Road) and Segment 3 (PTH 6 to Pipeline Road). The online survey is now closed, but if you have any questions, you can contact Meagan Boles, Engagement Lead for the project at Meagan.Boles@wsp.com

CLEAN ENERGY PROGRAMS MAKE INVESTING IN SOLAR ENERGY A SMART CHOICE Efficiency Manitoba will be removing solar rebate caps for commercial installations and begin offering solar rebates for new homes and buildings. Businesses can receive a rebate of $0.50 per watt when they install a solar PV system through a registered Efficiency Manitoba contractor. Rebates are now available for all solar PV system sizes.  New homes and new commercial buildings are now also eligible for solar PV rebates. Click here to learn more.

In addition to Efficiency Manitoba’s rebates, The Canadian federal government recently introduced The Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit (Clean Tech ITC) a refundable investment tax credit of up to 30% of the capital cost of clean technology property acquired by businesses. This legislation incentivizes businesses to invest in clean technology such as solar power.

These programs now provide more than 50% off rooftop solar system costs for businesses. If you’re interested in transitioning to solar energy, Powertec Solar  can supply and install a wide range of solar solutions for all types of applications.
